So the other day I was having lunch with a few co-workers, in celebration of our fine committee work this past semester -- when one of them told a horrific story.

He is going to be married this summer and recently he and his fiancee met with the priest who will conduct the ceremony. This meeting was apparently but one of a series required by the Catholic church (he is Catholic, she is not). As we all know, the Catholic church is not getting the best PR lately, so this priest apparently felt the need during this meeting to speak at length about the sexual abuse stories that are coming out. The priest's theory is that all of the sexual abuse in the church is being perpetrated by gay men -- and went on to say that in the nature vs. nurture debate, homosexuality is definitely a learned "behavior". BUT! He said that if homosexuality was somehow proven to be present at birth, he wondered if "people" would choose to abort their fetuses if there was a way to test for a gay gene. He then turned to this man's fiancee and said, "If you knew that you were going to give birth to a strong, handsome, athletic, male child but you also knew that he was going to be gay, wouldn't you abort the child?" He then answered the question for her: "Of course you would!" Apparently (according to this priest, anyway) the Catholic church would sanction abortion if it meant eliminating the gay people of the world.
